Ceres is the ancient Roman goddess of the harvest, the earth, and fertility. While researching possible pattern names, I was drawn to the agricultural aspects of Ceres’ personality but it turned out that her fertility associations were more pertinent to my life at the time. Immediately after knitting this shawl my husband and I entered IVF treatment and I basically fell off the face of the knitting world. Three years later, I am finally returning to harvest the resulting shawl and share it with you.

Bright, contrasting colours and interesting lace patterns combine to form this oversized crescent shawl that is a ton of fun to work up. The ruffled edge adds a final flirty twist to what I hope will be your favourite project this year!

Materials/notions required:
Yarn: 2 skeins The Australian Wool Store hand-dyed fingering weight yarn (100g/400m/437yd each) – one skein each of complimentary but contrasting colours
Needles: 4mm/US 6 32” or longer circular needles (long needle is used to accommodate the large number of stitches; shawl is worked flat)
Notions: 2 stitch markers (if desired)

Gauge:
22 sts and 35 rows over 4” (10cm) in Bricklayer’s Lace (gauge is not essential for this project, however your yardage requirements may vary if you do not achieve gauge)

Measurements:
Approx 200cm (78.75”) wingspan x 42cm (16.5”) depth
